Determined to spur students into excellent academic performance, Prof. Ibiyemi Tunji-Bello, the Vice-Chancellor of State University (LASU) has announced a pledge to refund 50% of school fees for all undergraduates who study hard enough to clinch a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.50 at the end of every academic year.
The VC made the pledge on Monday during the matriculation of the 2020/2021 students.
According to the 9th substantive Vice-Chancellor of LASU, the policy is put in place to promote healthy competition among the students who consistently maintain an average of the CGPA.
“We are committed to excellence and determined to emerge as the best university in the West Africa region.
“Our students’ welfare is top on our priorities as we will ensure that the learning environment remains conducive for learning.
“My dear matriculating students, please note that the distance between matriculation and convocation ceremonies is quite wide and yet so close, it is important that the journey ends successfully.’’
Olatunji-Bello advised the matriculating students to be regular in attendance at lectures, carry out all assignments shun deviant behaviours and avoid indecent dressing among others.
Meanwhile, the VC has re-emphasised the institution’s stance on zero tolerance for cultism, examination malpractices and other social vices as may be exhibited by youth.
“Those found culpable will be dealt with in line with their disciplinary mechanisms,” Olatunji Bello sternly warned. (Daily Independent)
