Ogun: Hoodlums attack police checkpoint, injure officer, cart away rifle

Suspected hoodlums have attacked police officers at a pin-down checkpoint on the Obasanjo-Itele road, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State and carted away AK-47 rifle.

Our correspondent gathered that the incident occured on Sunday at about 3:11am when some suspected hoodlums attacked the police officers who were on duty.

Our correspondent gathered that the police team was led by one ASP Nasiru Azeez with Inspector Olabisi Lawrence and Inspector Atari Friday.

A reliable source said Friday sustained injury on his head as the hoodlums also snatched his AK-47 rifle and made away with it.

According to the source, the AK-47 rifle with Breach No. 804611, was “carted away with 30 rounds of live ammunition.”

While the injured police officer was taken to State Hospital, Ota for treatment, the police is said to be making efforts to recover the lost rifle.

Several attempts to get reaction from the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, failed as he could be reached as of the time of filing this report.
