No fewer than 32 suspected cultists have been arrested by the Bayelsa State Police Command on Thursday in Yenagoa.
The state’s Police Public Relations, SP Asinim Butswat, made the disclosure in a statement on Friday.
It was gathered that residents of Yenagoa and other parts of the state have been recently plunged into fear over the activities of the suspected cultists who have clashed on several occasions.
The PPRO also revealed that an anti-cultism squad has been set up in the state to curb the menace of the hoodlums.
He said, “The Squad has since commenced an aggressive crackdown on cultists and violent criminals. So far, 32 cultists have been arrested and upon conclusion of the investigation will be charged to court under the Bayelsa State Anti-Cultism law.
“The State Police Command is not unaware of the open and hidden involvement of prominent individuals supporting the activities of the cult groups”, he added. (Daily Independent)
