UYO—A tragedy has struck Federal Government College in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, where a 12-year-old Junior Secondary School 2 boy named Ufokobong Edwin Godwin died from injuries he got when a senior student attacked him over food.
The event, which is alleged to have happened amid final exams before the Easter break, has caused friction in the school community and brought up worries about bullying at boarding schools again.
A roommate of the dead person, who asked to remain unidentified, said that the fight started when a senior student asked the boy for food.
The kid said, “A senior student in SS3 asked him for provisions, but he said he didn’t have enough.” “The older person hit him on the neck, and he fell into a coma.”
The insider also said that the kid woke up in the hospital and went back to school, and that his parents didn’t know how serious the situation was when they took him home for the holidays.
The insider went on to say, “He was hit on the neck over and over again and passed out three times before other students stepped in.”
Reports say that the boy’s symptoms got worse at home.
“He kept saying, ‘My neck, my neck.'” The kid remarked, “His parents gave him painkillers because they thought it was a small problem.” “But when the pain got too bad, his dad took him to the hospital right away.”
People reported that the father called friends late on Saturday night and asked them to pray for his son. The boy died on Easter Sunday morning.
Later medical evaluations revealed that the death was caused by problems that arose from blood clots in the neck area.
Timfon John, a spokesman for the Akwa Ibom State Police, said she will confirm the event but had not yet made an official comment at the time of writing.
The school administrator, Mr. Jude Ezeogu, said the news was distressing.
“It’s a sad thing that happened. He added, “The whole school is in mourning.” “We are very sad that he died. He is our child, a Nigerian child.” The school administration committee will look into what happened before his death.
The family of the dead person has asked the Federal Government to look into the situation and make sure that justice is done.
The father who was sad stated, “I can’t talk right now.” “I’m asking the Federal Government to step in and make things right. I will talk at the right moment.
