Mikel Arteta told Arsenal to put more pressure on Manchester City by increasing their lead at the top of the Premier League before their rivals play 24 hours later.
According to AFP, Arteta’s team will host Bournemouth on Saturday while City, who are in second place, will go to Chelsea on Sunday. This is a very important time in the title battle.
The Gunners are nine points ahead of City, but they have played one more game than Pep Guardiola’s club.
If Arsenal beats Bournemouth, that gap would grow to 12 points. This would put a lot of pressure on City to get all three points from their tough trip to Stamford Bridge.
Arteta told reporters today that the match will become more significant and relevant as we go closer to City. “Tomorrow is a big day for us,” he said.
“The players know it, our fans know it, it’s an early kick-off, so get up early, eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as they say in England, and let’s all go together because it has to be a big day.”
Arsenal lost to City in the League Cup final and to Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-finals. But they came back with a hard-fought 1-0 win against Sporting Lisbon in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday.
The Gunners want to win their first English title in 22 years and their first Champions League triumph.
Arteta is sure that they can win both trophies by the end of the season, which would end their six-year wait for silverware since winning the FA Cup.
Arteta added, “First of all, the capacity we have as a club and as a team, the will to win,” to explain why he thought this.
“We know there’s a chance ahead of us, and we’re going to do our best to make it happen.”
Arteta’s contract with Arsenal runs out in 2027, and the Spaniard is still firmly committed to the team after reports of talks about a new deal.
“There’s no news on that.” We don’t have time to talk about that right now. He remarked, “We are only thinking about what we need to do from now until the end of the season.”
“I’m all in, and I’m really thrilled and feel terrific. My family is doing well, and I still have a lot of goals for this football club. For now, everything is going well.
“This job is all about what you do today.” Do your best and believe that you are the one who can lead and motivate the group to do great things for the club.
