The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) doesn’t agree with the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Working Committee (NWC) led by Senator David Mark, but the party has set up a 22-member National Convention Central Coordination Committee (NCCCC).
The Guardian said that the committee would be led by former Cross River State Governor Senator Liyel Imoke and former Sokoto State Governor Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal as Vice Chairman. Dr. Ajuji Ahmed will be the Secretary.
There will be 339 members on the central committee, spread out over 11 standing committees, unless something changes at the last minute.
Our reporter has learned that other members of the central planning committee are former Imo State governor Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, retired Commissioner of Police Tajudeen Bakare, Aminu Abubakar Gwarzo, Hon. Emeka Nwajuba, Solomon Lalong, and others.
There are 11 committees, one of which is the Legal and Convention Processes Committee. Olumide Akpata is the Chairman-designate, Lilian Oraogbu is the Vice Chairman, and Hon. Chille Wanger Igbawua is the Secretary.
Senator Victor Umeh leads the Programmes and Events Sub-committee, Dr. Tony Nwoye leads the Medical Sub-committee, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe leads the Entertainment Sub-committee, Senator Gilbert Nnaji leads the Protocol Sub-committee, Senator Mohammed Ogoshi leads the Welfare Sub-committee, and Hon. Afam Ogene leads the New Media Sub-committee.
Senator Ireti Kingibe will be in charge of the Delegates and Accreditation Committee, and Senator Austin Ibrahim will be in charge of the Finance Committee. Senator Lawal Adamu Usman will be in charge of the Media and Publicity Committee, Senator Binos Yaroe will be in charge of the Venue Sub-committee, and AVM Suleiman Adamu (Rtd) would be in charge of the Security Sub-committee.
The ADC, led by David Mark, has said it will go ahead with its planned national convention even though INEC has warned them not to.
The party has also said that the election body is biased and that its chairman and national commissioners should step down.
ADC also said that INEC’s activities are a threat to democracy and are meant to weaken opposition parties so that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may create a one-party state.
The party said that INEC does not have the constitutional power to read court decisions in the way it sees suitable.
At the same time, the NWC, led by David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, has gone to court to get INEC’s decision overturned and force the commission to put the party’s leadership back on its official website.
The ADC has set next Tuesday as the date for its national convention and has begun getting ready for it.
