President Donald Trump said today that “a whole civilization will die” in Iran if the country doesn’t follow his ultimatum to meet US war demands.
The very offensive statement, which was the latest in a string of harsh words from Trump, drew quick and harsh criticism. One of his former close associates even called for him to be removed from office.
Vice President JD Vance gave his own scary warning about what might happen next, telling Tehran that US soldiers have weapons they “so far haven’t decided to use” against the Islamic republic, according to AFP.
Since February 28, the US and its ally Israel have destroyed Iranian military targets, murdered the country’s senior leaders, and damaged elements of its infrastructure.
Trump made one of his most obvious threats of the war early this morning.
“A whole civilization will perish tonight, and it will never come back to life. He added on his Truth Social platform, “I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will.”
Trump didn’t say much, but he has already suggested that the US military might attack Iran’s bridges, power plants, and other civilian infrastructure back to the “stone age.”
Trump has given Iran until midnight GMT on Tuesday to stop effectively blocking the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow, important waterway used to move oil and other goods.
He indicated yesterday that a plan for a temporary truce that was going about was not enough.
Iran has turned down US pressure. State media said that the government is emphasizing that it wants a full end to the war, not just a truce.
“Sick beyond measure”
Trump kept the door open for a last-minute deal on Truth Social.
“Now that we have a complete and total change of regime, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds are in charge, maybe something amazing will happen. Who knows?” He wrote, “We’ll find out tonight.”
Trump threatened yesterday that US troops would attack “every bridge in Iran” and “every power plant” starting late Tuesday night in Washington. Many analysts argue this would be a clear war crime.
Critics are shocked by how much Trump has threatened and insulted people.
“These are the crazy words of a bloodthirsty person.” Longtime Democratic Senator Patty Murray, one of many politicians who spoke out against Trump, stated, “It is sick beyond measure to threaten to wipe out an entire civilization.”
“This is not what the people of the United States want.” The Republican Congress should join the Democrats and terminate this war right away.
Some politicians who used to be loyal to Trump are now advocating for his removal using the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution. This amendment allows for a transfer of power if a president can’t rule, especially if they are sick.
“25TH AMENDMENT!!! “Not a single bomb has dropped on America,” tweeted former congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene on X.
“We can’t kill off a whole civilization.” This is crazy and evil.
Anthony Scaramucci, a financier who worked in Trump’s White House for a short time, told Republicans to “wake up” because the president “is calling for A NUCLEAR STRIKE. Seek his removal immediately.”
At the same time, Vance, who was in Hungary, sent Iran a scary message.
Vance stated, “They need to know that we have tools in our toolkit that we haven’t decided to use yet.” Trump “will decide to use them if the Iranians don’t change their behavior.”
Team Trump said that Vance’s comments did not imply a nuclear assault.
The White House said on X, “Literally nothing @VP said here ‘implies’ this, you idiots.”
The message was a reaction to one from an account linked to Kamala Harris that alleged Vance suggested Trump “might use nuclear weapons.”
