Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), went to see former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai on Saturday to offer his condolences after the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai.
Yilwatda, who led a group of party leaders to El-Rufai’s house in Abuja, said the loss was devastating and that the APC stands with the former governor and his family during this time of grief.
Reports say that Hajiya Umma El-Rufai died in Cairo, Egypt, on Friday, March 27, 2026, after a long illness. People thought of her as a matriarch whose ideals and public service path had a big impact on her son.
Yilwatda talked about how important family is and told El-Rufai to find comfort in the memory of his mother, who died. He also said that the party shares in his pain.
“The APC family is really upset about this loss. “We pray for her soul to rest in peace and for Mallam El-Rufai and his whole family to have strength,” he said.
The condolence visit comes at a time when El-Rufai is still a well-known member of the APC, even though recent political events have kept him in the news.
Meanwhile, friends, political allies, and supporters of El-Rufai have continued to visit his home in Abuja to pay their condolences. They have called the late Hajiya Umma a pillar of strength for her family and community.
