Troops from Operation HADIN KAI have effectively stopped a coordinated attempt by suspected ISWAP terrorists to get into Mallam Fatori, in the Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State. At least 60 insurgents were killed in the process.
An operational report that came out on Wednesday said that the attack happened on Tuesday night when terrorists attacked the 68 Battalion, Mobile Defense Area.
The report said that the attack came from the Duguri general region and was aimed at Bravo Company’s frontline position. It was alleged that the attackers were on foot and had armed drones with them.
But the Joint Task Force (JTF) troops, with help from the air, quickly replied to the attack. The military took out the drones and had the rebels retreat in disorder into the Arege general area.
Initial reports from the combat showed that more than 60 terrorists were killed and four soldiers were hurt, but not badly.
The military also said that ongoing intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance operations have found at least six groups of suspected terrorists heading toward the Arege axis.
It also said that plans are being made for clearance and exploitation operations to build on the achievements made during the encounter and stop more attacks in the area.
A video published by the JTF showing what happened after the airstrike showed how well and accurately personnel in the North-East theater were able to do their jobs.
The military promised again to protect civilians and keep up the pressure on terrorist groups in Borno State and nearby areas.
