Kenneth Okonkwo, a leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), says he is sure that the alliance would end the rule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before the 2027 general elections.
Okonkwo noted on Channels Television that the journey to get rid of the ruling party has only just begun.
“We’re still coming together.” You can see that the process of getting rid of APC has barely begun.
“Nine senators and an uncountable number of members of the House of Representatives have joined ADC.” Okonkwo added, “You can see how Akpabio is talking out of both sides of his mouth in everything he does.”
“FCT A Sham”
Okonkwo criticized the February 21 area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during the show. The APC won five out of six chairperson posts.
The actor who became a politician called the election a fraud.
He further said that Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, was limiting the opposition.
“Don’t evaluate us based on those elections. There was no election in FCT; it was a fraud. In an election when you kept people from leaving to vote, an election that was held under a law that no one knew about.
“Wike was stopping the opposition from moving, but they were going freely from polling place to polling place, messing up the election.
“Wike was not a person who was elected in FCT. He did not work for INEC. He shouldn’t have been at the polling place. He went on to say, “That FCT municipal election was a sham.”
“Leading Opposition Party”
He did say, though, that the ADC has become the best opposition platform in the country, even though it doesn’t control the federal government.
Okonkwo said, “The truth is that ADC, the African Democratic Congress, is the main opposition party right now.”
The lawyer said that he had told leaders of opposition parties including the PDP and the Labour Party (LP) to work together to fight the ruling party more effectively.
“I said this a long time ago: PDP, LP, and other parties can’t win.” He said, “The leaders and parties in the opposition should work together.”
He said that the alliance finally resolved to use the ADC as the political vehicle to work for what he called the goal of a new Nigeria.
Okonkwo said, “When they came together, they were able to deal with the APC, which has made itself an enemy of democracy and certainly an enemy of the people’s welfare.”
He also said that additional politicians would likely join the party as the political landscape changes in the run-up to future elections.
He remarked, “Soon, more politicians will join us, and by the grace of God, APC will be history.”
In 2015, the APC won the election and promised to fight corruption, improve the economy, and make the country safer.
But the opposition claims things have become worse since they took office 11 years ago, and many Nigerians are unhappy with the high cost of living and the lack of safety in some areas of the country.
