In Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, bandits stormed Makarfi town, killing one person and taking his elderly mother.
According to Daily Trust, the incident happened between 9:15 and 10:00 p.m. yesterday after residents saw the attackers in the vicinity.
People who lived nearby stated they heard gunfire every now and again.
On his Facebook site, Abdulrahman Adamu Makarfi stated, “Last night (Sunday) between 9:15 and 10:00 pm, the town’s quiet turned into a scene of gunfire and cries for help.”
“The horrible event led to the killing of one guy and the kidnapping of his mother by shooters whose identities are unknown. Sadly, this isn’t the first time something like this has happened in our town.
He said that these kinds of things are slowly becoming more common in Makarfi.
He went on to say that what was originally thought to be a one-time event has now turned into a trend that puts the town’s peace and stability at risk.
When we called, DSP Mansir Hassan, the Public Relations Officer for the Kaduna State Police Command, verified the attack. He said that two suspects had been captured and were being held by the police.
He stated that even though the police and other authorities were told about the incident late, they acted quickly and drove the attackers away.
“We were warned late, but we acted quickly and arrested two suspects who are now in our custody,” he said.
DSP Hassan also called a viral video that was going around on social media that claimed to represent the recent event in Makarfi town false.
He made it clear that the video did not show where the event took place and told people not to share unconfirmed information that could spread false information.
