Frank Mba, a Deputy Inspector-General of Police, and a few other high-ranking officers would be leaving the Nigeria Police Force because of recent changes in its leadership.
This is the same time that seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police are set to be promoted to Deputy Inspector-General of Police.
Mba and the other DIGs left after the former Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, left and Tunji Disu was named the new Inspector General of Police.
Sources at the Force Headquarters indicated that the DIGs were ready to go but were waiting for a signal that had not yet come.
“The DIGs are ready to go, but they are waiting for signs.” A lot of them had already moved their things out of their offices in preparation for retirement.
One source informed our reporter, “Maybe they will leave when the AIG is ready for promotion.”
Another source added that seven AIGs are scheduled to go to the Police Service Commission on Friday for their promotion tests. This will make it possible for Mba and others to retire.
Seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police are set to be promoted to Deputy Inspector-General of Police, which will mean they will have to retire.
The officers are Zachariah Fera, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, Ishiaku Mohammed, Zango Ibrahim, Umar Shehu Nadada, and Muhammed Abdul Sulaiman.
The insider stated, “They are supposed to go to Abuja on Friday to see the Police Service Commission about a promotion.”
When asked, Torty Kalu, the PSC’s spokesman, did not say yes or no.
Mba is a skilled lawyer and one of the DIGs who is about to retire. He went to the Nigerian Law School in Abuja and got his law degree from the University of Lagos. In 2002, he was called to the Nigerian Bar.
He eventually got a Master’s degree in Law with honors from the University of Dundee in Scotland.
He also went to a number of international programs, such as the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and leadership classes at Harvard University and the University of Oxford.
He was the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State and the Commissioner of Police in command of the Border Patrol Force at the Force Headquarters during his tenure.
He was also in charge of operations as Area Commander at Ajah and FESTAC in Lagos.
