A murder that took place in the Ori-Apata Oderemi neighborhood of Ido, Ibadan, Oyo State, has led to the arrest of two suspects.
According to The Nation, a 62-year-old woman’s lifeless body was found in a bush walk within the hamlet after roughly seven days.
The dead was discovered laying in a pool of blood with a deep cut on her neck, according to Ayanlade Olayinka, spokesman for the Oyo State Police Command, who confirmed the arrest.
According to him, the body was taken right away to the mortuary at Adeoyo General Hospital for a post-mortem and autopsy in order to ascertain the true cause of death.
He mentioned that two suspects, Ogbu James Ajah “m,” age 40, and Muhammad Sanusi “m,” age 42, who lived in the Ori-Apata neighborhood of Ido, had been arrested in connection with the incident as a result of preliminary inquiry.
He stated: “The Oyo State Police Command would want to notify the public about a possible murder case that took place in the Ori-Apata Oderemi neighborhood of Ido, Ibadan.
“A good Samaritan found the lifeless body of a 62-year-old woman in a bush path within the community and reported the incident to the police.”
The deceased was discovered with a deep slash on her neck, lying in a pool of blood.
Detectives quickly went to the spot after receiving the report, and initial investigation showed that the body had been there for at least seven days before it was found.
As a result, the body was taken right away to the Adeoyo General Hospital morgue for a post-mortem and autopsy in order to ascertain the true cause of death.
In order to conduct a comprehensive investigation, he continued, the location was promptly cordoned off while forensic specialists were sent in to process and collect the evidence that would help identify, apprehend, and prosecute the offender or offenders.
The case has since been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in accordance with established investigative process in order to guarantee a thorough and private investigation.
Two suspects, now identified as Ogbu James Ajah “m,” 40, and Muhammad Sanusi “m,” 42, who both reside in the Ori-Apata region of Ido, have been arrested in connection with the event following preliminary inquiry.
While efforts are being stepped up to capture any further accomplices connected to the crime, the suspects are now being held at the State CID and are helping the police with continuing investigations.
In the beginning, the regrettable event led to demonstrations by irate relatives and community supporters.
But thanks to the prompt action of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ido Division, and the Local Government Chairman, the situation was quickly brought under control. They both pleaded with and calmed the grieving family and other irate members of the public, advising them not to take matters into their own hands.
“Their intervention prevented a breakdown of law and order and helped restore calm.”
Following this, the Command began conducting extensive joint patrols throughout the impacted town and surrounding areas in coordination with other security agencies and pertinent non-state actors.
“To uphold public order, improve visibility policing, and reassure locals of their safety, police operational assets and tactical teams have been strategically deployed to the area,” Olayinka observed.
He said that in an act of responsive leadership, Oyo State Government Commissioner of Police Femi Haruna and a high-ranking team traveled to the impacted neighborhood to personally examine the situation and offer condolences to the family of the deceased.
He continued by saying that in order to maintain long-term peace and stability in the region, the CP has further instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to plan and direct any required operational deployments.
The public is reassured by the Oyo State Police Command that every effort will be made to uncover the circumstances surrounding this horrible conduct and guarantee that justice is done.
He promises that residents are exhorted to maintain composure, follow the law, and offer reliable and useful information that could support the continuing inquiry.
