Some critics, in their infinite wisdom, say that your music isn’t really Afrobeat. I respectfully tell them that they are accurate, mostly because the complicated spices, the hidden alchemy, and the very DNA of Afrobeat are too much for their simple minds to handle.
But let me enjoy the beautiful: I love the way your drums sound, the sneaky rhythm of your snares, and the whimsical cadence of your percussions. Your voice also dances easily, mixing with a style that is so unique and defiant that it can’t be put into a box. Some people laugh and say it’s R&B, a “Western” fling. And yeah, let’s give them this small truth. This bold mix is what makes you shine, lights up your glow, and guarantees your success.
A big, hearty “congratulations” on your Grammy, Tyla! Keep dazzling, keep glowing, and most importantly, keep winning. Push and Start has given you a second Grammy, which, in my opinion, is the best example of Afrobeat done with style, authority, and an almost imperial reach that can conquer the world.
Please don’t give up on your tireless drive. greater wins are coming, and greater glory for Africa and all of us.
Again, good job! You did a great job.
