A socio-cultural organization from Abia State has promised ₦100 million to help Governor Alex Otti win re-election in Nigeria’s 2027 governorship elections. This shows that politics are already heating up in the southeastern state.
The Ukwa La Ngwa people of Abia State announced the donation at a big civic welcome for the governor at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba, which is the state’s commercial center, according to Saturday Guardian.
According to a statement from the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, people of the Ukwa La Ngwa community donated money together to buy Otti’s nomination form when the process starts.
Emmanuel Emeruwa, the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly and head of the steering committee for the civic reception, said that everyone in the group was united in their support for the governor and was ready to give more if needed.
Otti congratulated the people for what he called an incredible display of support. He said that the number of individuals who showed up showed that the public had faith in his administration.
“This is your government, and your needs will always come first.” “The governor said that governance in Abia is no longer based on personal or party interests.”
Otti, who was elected in 2023 on the Labour Party’s platform, has often said that improving infrastructure, education, and cities are some of his administration’s top goals.
He said at the occasion that Ovom Road would be built on February 25, and that the formal start of the rebuilding of Enyimba Hotel into a five-star hotel run by Radisson Blu would also happen on that day.
“Our objective is not to start initiatives and then leave them. Otti remarked, “We want the hotel to be finished and open for business by next year.”
He also told the people of Aba to sign up for their Permanent Voter Cards and stressed that voting is still important for political representation and accountability.
“The number of votes here is much lower than the number of people who live in Aba.” He said, “The only ways to show political strength are to register and vote.”
Senator Adolphus Wabara, who is also the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, said earlier that the event was a sign that people were happy with the governor’s work.
“This gathering is not a party rally but a people’s verdict on governance,” Wabara stated. He also vowed that Abia citizens would protect their election mandate in future polls.
Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who represents Abia South, and Labour Party National Secretary Darlington Nwokocha also spoke. They claimed that Otti’s policies in many areas had won him support from a wide range of people.
Traditional leaders from Ukwa La Ngwa communities also promised to keep supporting the governor. The event was attended by federal and state MPs and prominent political personalities, and there were cultural displays.
