Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, the Clerk to the House of Representatives, has left the National Assembly.
Abbas Tajudeen, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, said at plenary today that Danzaria was retiring from his job.
Abbas said that Ibrahim Sidi would be the new Clerk to the House of Representatives.
During a short farewell session for the outgoing Clerk, lawmakers praised his hard work, honesty, and dedication to duty.
In his farewell speech, Abbas praised Dr. Danzaria’s work and contributions to the growth of the legislative and, by extension, democracy.
The Speaker added, “Today, the House meets to honor service in a serious way. We get together not simply to recognize the passage of time, but also to honor a lifetime dedicated to keeping parliamentary democracy stable, honest, and going. This farewell session honors the time that Dr. Yahaya H. Danzaria served as the Clerk of the House of Representatives.
The Speaker said that in every democratic legislature, elected officials must function inside a stable institutional framework. This framework is sustained by rules, order, records, and professional management.
“The Office of the Clerk is at the center of this duty. “It keeps things going between elections, protects the legitimacy of parliamentary decisions, and makes sure that debate, disagreement, and consensus all happen within the law,” he said.
Abbas said that Dr. Danzaria worked in the sensitive office “with clarity, discipline, and restraint.” He also said that the outgoing clerk’s tenure in the National Assembly “reflects steady progress built on competence and learning.”
The Speaker noted that Danzaria’s work in Parliament blended legal accuracy with administrative understanding. Danzaria had trained in law and then went on to study public administration and policy research.
“He knew that procedure is not a formality. It works. The Speaker also said, “It exists to protect minority rights, keep order, and make sure that the House’s decisions can stand up to legal and constitutional scrutiny.”
He said that one of Dr. Danzaria’s most important achievements to the institution was helping to create and carry out the Legislative Agenda of the 10th House.
He also said that the Clerk was very important in changing the House’s Standing Orders.
Benjamin Okezie Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, praised Danzari for being humble, hard-working, and dedicated to his work.
Other MPs, such Hons. Ali Isah, Sada Soli, and Mariam Onuoha, who spoke during the session, also praised Danzaria and said that the House would always remember the legacy he left behind.
