A twin-propeller plane with 15 passengers on board, including Colombian congressman Diogenes Quintero, has crashed in a mountainous area near the border with Venezuela.
Our source says that the plane left the border city of Cúcuta and lost touch with air traffic control just before it was supposed to land in the nearby town of Ocaña at 5:00 p.m. GMT on January 28.
An officer from the aviation authority told our reporter, “There are no survivors.”
There were 13 people on the plane and two crew members.
The Cúcuta area is notable for its rough terrain, changing weather, and parts that are controlled by Colombia’s biggest guerrilla group, the National Liberation Army.
NDTV reported separately that the government sent the Colombian Air Force to find the plane and bring back the bodies.
Wilmer Carrillo, a member of the local parliament, said he was worried about the tragedy. “We have received with concern the information about the air accident in which my colleague, Diogenes Quintero, Carlos Salcedo, and their teams were traveling.”
Quintero is a member of Colombia’s Chamber of Deputies, and Salcedo is running for office in the next election.
The tragedy is just one more in a long line of deadly plane crashes in Colombia that have killed famous people.
A private jet crashed in central-eastern Colombia in January 2025, killing all six individuals on board, including singer Yeison Jiménez.
