Just a week after 177 churchgoers were kidnapped in the Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, gunmen have struck again, this time taking six people from Unguwar Barkonu in Maraban Kajuru.
The most recent attack happened early yesterday morning in Kufana Ward, while the Christian Association of Nigeria held special prayers for the safe return of the believers who had been kidnapped before, according to The PUNCH.
Steven Kefas, a resident in the area, stated that armed guys came in approximately 1 am, broke into multiple homes, and took six people hostage.
Kefas claimed, “Bandits stormed our community at about 1 am, broke into houses, and took six people away by force to an unknown place.”
He said, “This attack didn’t happen in a remote village with no road access,” showing his anger at where it happened.
It happened in Kudana, right in the middle of Kajuru, where people expect to see some protection.
Kefas also complained about the lack of a quick security reaction.
“As of the time this report was filed, the police and other security authorities had not yet responded. He said, “The community was left on its own.”
The Rev. Enoch Kaura, who is the Chairman of CAN in Kajuru Local Government Area, confirmed the occurrence. He stated that bandits attacked the neighborhood around 11 p.m. on Saturday.
Kaura claimed, “They surrounded the whole area and scared the people who lived there.” “But when neighbors called the police and people started coming out of their homes, the attackers ran away with six residents.”
Kaura said that the attacks that keep happening are very worrying, especially since they happened so soon after the kidnapping of churchgoers.
“It hurts that bandits have attacked again while families are still crying and praying for the return of the 177 abducted worshippers. “This has made everyone in the Kajuru axis scared and worried,” he said.
We were unable to get an official response from the Kaduna State Police Command.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, could not be reached since his phone line said “not reachable.” Also, as of the time of writing this report, he had not responded to a text message given to him.
On Sunday, Tawaliu Baptist Church in Maraban Kajuru organized a special prayer service for the safe return of the 177 worshippers who had been kidnapped.
Christian leaders from all throughout Kaduna State and regions of northern Nigeria came to the prayer meeting.
Families of the kidnapped worshippers, some of whom were clearly upset, went to the service while they waited for news of their loved ones. Church leaders took the opportunity to ask the government and security forces to work more to free all of the kidnapped people and bring peace back to the area.
