Alhaji Muhammad Rabiu, the commissioner of police for Kaduna State, has called claims that 163 worshippers were abducted in Kajuru Local Government Area untrue.
Speaking to media at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House following today’s State Security Council meeting, the police commissioner urged anyone making the allegation to disclose the names of the alleged victims along with additional details.
According to The PUNCH, he cautioned against attempts to sabotage the current peace in Kaduna State.
Speaking as well, Kajuru LGA Chairman Dauda Madaki stated that he had called the police and other security forces to the Kurmin Wali community after hearing rumors of an attack but discovered that there had been none.
We went to the church where the alleged kidnapping occurred. There was no sign of an assault. Mai Dan Zaria, the local chief, told me there was no such incident.
“I also called the local youth leader, Bernard Bona, who was interviewed by the journalists who went with me. He claimed that nothing of the sort had occurred.
I hereby issue a challenge to anyone who can identify the individuals who were abducted. I’ve been waiting for this list, but nobody has offered a name.
“I think the rumors of the kidnapping are being spread by people who are unhappy with the relative calm that Kajuru has been experiencing since this administration took office,” he continued.
Madaki urged locals to maintain composure and carry out their legal obligations.
He advised them to notify security personnel of any questionable activities and rumor-mongers.
Today, Rev. John Hayab, the chairman of the Northern Christian Association of Nigeria, claimed that worshippers had been kidnapped from Cherubim and Seraphim Church 1 and Cherubim and Seraphim Church 2 in Kajuru.
According to Hayab, the attackers broke inside the churches during services, shut the gates, and led the people into the bush.
According to Sule Shuaibu (SAN), the Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, the CAN chairman and other religious leaders had spoken with locals in the area where the alleged kidnapping took place.
He assured that “the Kaduna State Government has zero tolerance for criminality” and stated that “they discovered that what was pushed out to the public sphere was completely false.”
