Due to long standing ongoing payment delays, local contractors have once again peacefully demonstrated at the Federal Ministry of Finance’s entrance in Abuja.
According to Channels TV, the demonstrators, who are organized under the auspices of the All Indigenous Contractors Association of Nigeria (AICAN), are complaining about the protracted delays in project completion and commissioning and accusing the government of continuously changing its stance.
The demonstrators, who were screaming songs of solidarity and demanding that the minister pay the alleged debt arrears, had blocked the Ministry of Finance’s entrance as of the time this article was filed.
The confrontation is an extension of the protests that were held last year to demand that the Federal Government pay all of its outstanding obligations.
The majority of the completed and commissioned projects, according to the contractors, have not yet received payment.
But in December 2025, President Tinubu ordered the formation of a committee to deal with the problems.
Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance, has also been invited by a similar committee established by the Senate to provide an explanation for the non-payment of the “debts.”
