During an attack on a farm in Ogunmakin Community, Ibadan, Oyo State, gunmen killed a police officer and kidnapped a Chinese expatriate.
According to Sunday PUNCH, the incident happened at Aqua Triton Company on Thursday at around 1 pm when about ten armed men assaulted the building in a commando-style operation.
Renjith Pillai, a 42-year-old company director, was reportedly taken prisoner by the assailants when he was examining the farm’s produce.
Ayanlade Olayinka, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident to our correspondent, stating that the police officer died attempting to stop the onslaught.
He said that a search had begun to find the expatriate, even if the victims’ names could not be verified.
“I can attest that an attack took place at Aqua Triton Company in Ogunmakin, close to Ibadan, when unidentified gunmen broke in in the manner of a commando. He claimed, “The Chinese expatriate principal was kidnapped, one police officer tragically died while fending off the attack, and some of the attackers were injured.”
Olayinka further mentioned that Femi Haruna, the state’s police commissioner, had mandated an urgent manhunt for the abductors.
The Commissioner of Police instructed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to direct the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and other tactical units to the scene as soon as the incident was reported. In order to assure the victim’s safe rescue as well as the arrest and conviction of the offenders, a thorough investigation has been initiated and a bush-combing operation is currently underway,” he said.
