Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, Director General of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), has urged all stakeholders to work together to maintain peace in Nigeria.
He addressed at the IPCR-ACOE MoU signing at the Institute’s Abuja Corporate Headquarters.
Dr. Ochogwu stated that peace is an all-inclusive issue that requires the active participation of all ministries, departments, agencies, national and multinational agencies, states, and non-state actors.
He said the media must responsibly mobilize intellectual, institutional, and informational resources to build peace in Nigeria.
Peace is inclusive. No institution can do it alone, he said.
Doctor Ochogwu added, “Your nation is like your family,” warning against damaging criticism. When you keep lowering it, others regard it as broken. Positive engagement builds nations. Harmful criticism damages them.”
He argued that government, media, and civil society must work together to advance President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda.
The IPCR Director General stated, “This partnership is about amplifying voices for peace, dialogue, understanding and development not just in Nigeria, but across Africa.”
The event’s highlight was Dr. Ochogwu and ACOE Chairman Shola Akingboye’s formal endorsement.
The MoU promotes ethical online journalism and peacebuilding cooperation between IPCR and ACOE and supports research, policy advocacy, and public campaigns to improve governance, transparency, and citizen participation in peace processes.
The parties committed to collaborate on research on the impact of online media on conflict dynamics, including joint publications, studies, and policy briefs. Sharing knowledge, resources, and best practices on conflict resolution and digital media ethics; attending each other’s lectures, prizes, and conferences to promote peace and media responsibility.
ACOE Chairman Shola Akingboye praised IPCR Director General Dr. Joseph Ochogwu for driving the Institute toward its mission and goals earlier in his answer.
He promised to work with the institute, stating, “Given our commitment to being the voice for the voiceless, we are here to pledge our willingness to support all efforts through enhanced collaboration to improve peace in Nigeria.”
“We’ll use our media platforms to support IPCR’s good work under your leadership.
We can use digital platforms to promote IPCR’s good work, increase online visibility, engagement, stakeholder education, and accomplish your goal.
