A masquerade who allegedly used violence against visitors during a funeral service in Awgbu, Orumba North Local Government Area, has been taken into custody by the Anambra State Police Command.
The masquerade charged at those seated at the top table, generating terror as attendees ran for their lives, according to a widely shared video of the incident.
Later, a few physically fit men were observed straining to keep the disguise under control before escorting it out of the premises.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the arrest, emphasizing that police action was required to preserve lives and property and that the command would not tolerate such unprovoked attacks.
Ikenga stated in a statement:
The masquerade responsible for the violent and unjustified attacks on defenseless civilians that resulted in a violation of public order in Awgbu, Orumba North Local Government Area, has been apprehended by the Command.
“The masquerade’s actions, as depicted in the widely shared video, are completely intolerable, illegal, and will not be accepted under any pretense.
Investigations are still underway to make sure that everyone involved is held accountable, and the suspect is presently in police custody. Additional updates will be shared.
