The Nigerian Army has issued a warning on social media accounts established and managed by deceitful individuals purporting to represent or be affiliated with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu.
Army spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Apollonia Anele issued a warning in a statement today.
Anele states that the Chief of Army Staff lacks a formal social media presence on any site.
She urged the public to exercise “utmost caution and maintain vigilance” against scammers who may seek to exploit these fraudulent accounts to deceive innocent individuals, solicit donations, or disseminate misinformation under the guise of the COAS or the Nigerian Army.
The Army’s spokeswoman additionally implored the public to refrain from engaging with, responding to, or disseminating information from such accounts.
Anele stated, “The Nigerian Army is undertaking all requisite measures to capture the individuals behind these fraudulent accounts in order to ensure their prosecution in accordance with existing laws.”
