President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and their aides will spend N12.2 billion on trips outside and within Nigeria in 2026.
Saturday Vanguard reported that this is in the contents of the State House budget projections that were sent to the National Assembly as part of the 2026 Appropriation Bill.
The budget reveals that the presidency still puts international engagement first. Foreign travel is the biggest expense for both offices when it comes to travel and transportation, even if they are under financial strain and making changes.
There was a total of N7.014 billion set aside for President Tinubu’s travel and transportation. N6.14 billion of this money was put aside for overseas travel and related logistics, and N873.89 million was set aside for local travel and transportation.
The Vice President’s travel budget for the Fiscal Year was N1.732 billion. This included N1.31 billion for international travel and N417.49 million for travel within the country.
Under State House Headquarters, there was also a separate N3.433 billion set aside for travel and transport (general).
The State House budget also set aside N375.19 million for food and catering supplies and N179.01 million for the President’s cars.
N79.68 million went to drugs and medical supplies, and N56.43 million went to meals and snacks.
The President’s overall budget was N8.39 billion, which included other things that weren’t listed. Of that, N777.19 million was for capital spending.
It was also planned to spend N171.03 million on food and catering supplies, N14.99 million on meals and snacks, and N21.8 million on honorarium and seating allowance.
The budget also set aside N28 million for welfare packages and N11.83 million for advertising and publicity. This brought the total amount set aside for the Vice President to N2.64 billion (not including other items), with capital spending estimated at N641.39 million, which includes spending on assets and long-term support infrastructure.
The State House headquarters got a total budget of N43.20 billion for the 2026 fiscal year. This included N2.64 billion for staff costs, N10.10 billion for overhead, and N30.49 billion for capital spending.
The details showed that N11.23 billion was set aside to buy cars, N7 billion to provide solar power to the villa, N2.424 billion for wildlife conservation in the State House, N2.12 billion for honorarium and sitting allowance, N2.56 billion for office furniture and fittings, N2.42 billion for wildlife conservation, and N513.84 million for welfare packages.
Also, N3.84 billion was set aside for buying spare parts and maintaining cars, N8.48 billion was set aside for fixing and rehabilitating office buildings, and N44.21 million was set aside for fixing and rehabilitating homes.
N371.80 million will be spent on library books and equipment, N12.19 million will be spent on sports and gaming equipment, and N11.71 million will be spent on developing and providing office buildings.
