Tiwa Savage, an Afrobeats musician, has talked about how she raises her 10-year-old son, Jamil. She says that even though she is rich and successful, she is raising him with discipline and limitations.
The singer talked about this in a series of photos on her Instagram story, where she talked about a video by entrepreneur and pastor Ibukun Awosika.
Tiwa cautioned parents not to “kill their children’s ambition” by using their own success as an example.
She says that kids who get everything they want while they are young may have trouble with passion, drive, and ambition later in life.
Saturday Guardian says she pointed out that people typically work hard and go for their aspirations when they need something or don’t have it.
“Your dream should be bigger than your reality.” “Something you want that you don’t already have,” she wrote.
Tiwa revealed that she had already started using this mindset with Jamil, who she shares with her ex-husband, Tunji “TeeBillz” Balogun.
She said that she sometimes flies private, but now she makes sure to put her kid in economy class when they fly for business.
The musician stated that Jamil was dissatisfied the last time he flew economy class since he had neck discomfort and no legroom. Tiwa thought the complaints were funny because his legs were still too short to reach the front seat.
She said that even though he was flying with his nanny, she had to keep checking on him during the journey because he was upset about the way the seats were arranged.
The singer said that she is also teaching her youngster how to earn prizes. Tiwa told Jamil that he couldn’t just ask for stuff like Roblox anymore. Instead, he has to do duties around the house or do well in school to get them.
She answered, “He has to earn it by doing chores around the house or getting good grades.”
Tiwa also said that her son can’t use an iPad, eat snacks, or consume candy throughout the week. She also said that studying the Bible is now part of her evening routine before bed.
Tiwa was quick to say that Jamil is a good kid, even if the regulations are really harsh. She called him “a really good kid” and said that her actions are based on love and the desire to give him a good start in life.
She stated, “I am intentional about setting a good foundation for him,” and added that this is what real love looks like to her.
Tiwa Savage, one of Africa’s most successful female musicians, has talked a lot about being a mother and the difficulties of raising a child in the public eye since she had Jamil in 2015.
