Antoine Semenyo, formerly of Bournemouth, joined Manchester City today for a reputed £65 million ($87 million), bolstering City’s attacking options.
As per AFP, the 26-year-old has inked a five-and-a-half-year contract. He has scored ten goals in the Premier League so far this season.
The Ghanaian international, who was born in London, was apparently wanted by a number of clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham, and his buyout clause was set to expire tomorrow.
With a sense of immense pride, Semenyo announced his signing with Manchester City.
City have been Pep Guardiola’s dominant Premier League team for the past decade, and they have accomplished incredible things in the FA Cup, League Cup, and Champions League as well.
“They have established unprecedented benchmarks, and the club boasts first-rate facilities, world-class players, and Pep, one of the greatest managers of all time.”
On Wednesday, he scored the game-winning goal in stoppage time to halt Tottenham’s 11-game losing streak and cap off his final act with the Cherries, following three years with the club.
City are crossing their fingers that Semenyo can improve their 2026 trophy push on four fronts.
Guardiola’s squad has upcoming matches in the FA Cup, League Cup, and Champions League, and they are now six points behind Arsenal in the Premier League.
With Savinho sidelined with an injury and Omar Marmoush representing Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, City is short on options in the wide areas.
Premier League clubs have made their first significant move of the January window with the transfer of Semenyo.
After injuries to Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol, City are looking to add to their defensive options.
Their main goal is Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, whose contract expires at the end of the season.
After starting his career with three loan spells from Bristol City, Semenyo’s career has taken off like a rocket.
After working his way up the ranks, he joined the Premier League in 2023 and, in the two years under Andoni Iraola’s tutelage, has become one of the league’s most dangerous wingers.
Being at this club at my professional level couldn’t be better for me because there is so much room for progress. “Being here is truly an honor,” Semenyo remarked.
I know that my finest football performance is yet ahead of me. With four tournaments still ongoing, City are in a fantastic position. If I can contribute in any way, I think they’ll have a solid second half of the year.
City welcome third-tier Exeter to the Etihad Stadium for Saturday’s FA Cup match, and Semenyo might make his debut.
