A mini truck carrying supplies crashed into two automobiles on the Otedola Bridge part of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway today. The cars were badly damaged, and traffic was stopped.
Eyewitnesses said that the event happened around midday and was caused by brakes failing.
According to Channels TV, the truck lost control, went off its lane, and hit the cars on the bridge.
The crash caused a black SUV to hit another automobile, and both cars were badly damaged.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the event and added that no one had been hurt at the time of the report.
LASTMA announced in a message on its official X account that “A multiple vehicle accident involving a truck and two cars has occurred along Berger inward Secretariat.”
“Officials are on the scene to make sure everyone is safe and things get back to normal. As of the time of this report, there have been no deaths. Traffic is backed up all the way from Jubilee Estate to Berger New Garage.
The traffic management agency said, “Efforts are currently ongoing for evacuation, and our men are present there to ensure ease of traffic movement.”
As work continued to clear the wreckage and alleviate traffic on the bridge, emergency services were sent to the area.
Otedola Bridge has been a prominent accident blackspot for many years. There have been many serious accidents there, especially those involving heavy-duty vehicles like tankers that exploded, containers that fell, and multiple cars that crashed.
A terrible tanker explosion on the bridge in June 2018 killed at least 12 people and damaged scores of cars.
More recently, several collisions involving trucks and other vehicles have raised safety concerns throughout the corridor.
