Just a few days after the body of a nurse from the Federal Medical Center (FMC) in Jabi was found by the side of the road, the body of a female lawyer from Abuja was recovered along the Kubwa Expressway.
According to Daily Trust, nurse Chinemerem Chuwumeziem, who worked at FMC Jabi, concluded her afternoon shift on January 3, 2026, and got into a car to go home but never made it.
Later, her body was found dead on the side of the road.
The body of lawyer Princess Chigbo Mediatrix, who is thought to have been the former Treasurer of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Abuja Branch, was found on the side of the road near the Kubwa Expressway. We are still waiting for more information about the events that led to her death.
People are strongly suggesting that she may also have been a victim of “one-chance” criminals.
A post on X (previously Twitter) says that the body was located in a different place with papers that make it look like she might have worked for the FCT High Court.
Some court staff members who were asked for comment indicated they didn’t know about the incident, so our correspondent couldn’t confirm her work position at the court.
The update on social media contained a picture of the dead woman and her ID card. It said that her bag was found a short distance from her body, which is typical of “one-chance” crimes in which victims are robbed, beaten, and hurled from moving cars.
People want something done
Residents have asked the police and other security organizations to do their jobs.
Mr. Ismail Umar, a civil servant from Jabi, said he was worried that the police hadn’t given full information on the two events yet.
He stated, “In a normal society, the police would have started a full investigation and kept the public up to date on its progress.”
Another resident, Mrs. Agnes Attah, told FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to pay more attention to safety.
She said that while crime rates have gone down a little, more needs to be done.
“How can someone end work in the afternoon and die in this way without any official response? She said, “It’s not okay in a city like Abuja.”
The nurses’ group is against the killings.
The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) spoke out against the assassination of Chinemerem Chuwumeziem earlier on Tuesday, calling it an attack on nurses and healthcare workers across the country.
The Chairman of the FCT Council of NANNM, Jama Medan, said in a statement that Nurse Chinemerem was still working at FMC Abuja.
“She finished her shift and got in a car after spending the day helping others without expecting anything in return. The message said, “Sadly, she never made it home.” The group told the FCT Minister to improve security near hospitals and big intersections where healthcare workers get on and off of cars.
Police confirm what happened and start an investigation.
The FCT Police Command says that early investigations into the killings of the two ladies point to a link to the work of “one-chance” gangs in the capital.
SP Josephine Adeh, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, said yesterday that the police are still looking into what happened in the killings.
Our correspondent saw a joint patrol squad scrutinizing unpainted cars with passengers at a number of important places in an effort to stop the problem.
