Yesterday, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) met with former President Goodluck Jonathan in his office in Maitama, Abuja.
After the meeting, Tanimu Turaki, the National Chairman of the PDP, told reporters that the purpose of the visit was to brief Jonathan on the party’s current situation, its continuing legal challenges, and its prospects for the 2019 elections.
“We have his word that he is still an active, card-carrying member of the PDP and feels obligated to support the party. The PDP has done enough for him, and he will do his best to do more for the party,” Turaki said.
He went on to say that Jonathan’s comments were “very reassuring and encouraging” as they got ready for the 2027 national elections and the off-season elections in Ekiti and Osun.
According to Channels TV, the PDP is having a leadership crisis, with Abdulrahman Mohammed and Turaki leading different groups that are fighting for the national chairperson.
INEC stepped in recently to clear things up before the elections in Ekiti and Osun that are coming up.
There has been further talk that Jonathan would be the PDP’s candidate for president in 2027, although he has not said anything officially about it.
