Funke Akindele, a Nollywood actor and filmmaker, has had another big commercial success. Her recent movie, Behind The Scenes, made ₦1.77 billion at the Nigerian box office, which shows that she is still the most successful person in the country’s film business.
FilmOne Entertainment, the film’s distributor, tweeted the news of the milestone on X (previously Twitter) today.
“Celebrating another amazing milestone, and we know we couldn’t have done it without you and your devotion.
“Behind The Scenes” has made a huge ₦1.77 billion. FilmOne tweeted, “Thank you to everyone for the love and support so far.”
The distributor says that the movie has made ₦1,767,305,878 so far, making it the number one movie of the weekend in West Africa. The box office numbers are still going up as of 4 p.m. on Monday, January 5, 2025.
FilmOne said, “THANK YOU WEST AFRICA. NO.1 FILM OF THE WEEKEND… AND COUNTING,” and the numbers were confirmed.
Scarlet Gomez plays the main character in Behind The Scenes. The movie also stars Funke Akindele, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, Uche Montana, Uzor Arukwe, Ini Dima-Okojie, Adebowale “Mr. Macaroni,” Ibrahim Chatta, Kamo State, and reality TV stars Handi and Wanni Danbaki, among others.
The movie is about black tax and the social, emotional, and financial difficulties that those who have to support extended family members endure. This is a topic that has resonated with audiences in Nigeria and the rest of West Africa.
Earlier reports said that Behind The Scenes made ₦1,109,463,846 at the box office, which made it one of the highest-grossing Nollywood films of all time.
After the milestone, FilmOne called Akindele “the only director to cross ₦1B+ at the box office three different times” and “Nollywood’s highest-grossing producer of all time,” showing how popular she is with audiences.
Behind The Scenes is another hit for Akindele at the box office. His last movie, Everybody Loves Jenifa, made over ₦40 million on its first day, crossed ₦355 million in its first week, and made over ₦700 million by its second weekend. It was the fastest Nollywood movie to reach ₦1 billion in the US.
Behind The Scenes is still doing well at the box office, and industry experts think the film’s success is due to a mix of realistic storytelling, smart marketing, and Akindele’s continued popularity with mainstream viewers.
