After receiving more and more complaints from drivers over the theft of car parts during traffic jams, the Lagos State Police Command has detained 14 alleged traffic robbers along the Lekki–Epe Expressway in the last two weeks.
According to The Nation, members of the Tactical Squad, Elemoro, made the arrests at several points throughout the crowded passageway.
In a statement published on X today, CSP Abimbola Adebisi, the command’s spokesperson, revealed this.
“In the last two weeks, the Tactical Squad, Elemoro, has arrested fourteen suspected traffic robbers at various locations along the Lekki–Epe Expressway,” Adebisi stated.
She urged locals to exercise caution and called the operation “a clear demonstration of the Command’s commitment to improving security and protecting road users along the corridor.”
She said, “See something, say something.”
The arrests occur as public anxiety over traffic-related robberies in the Lekki area, especially the theft of auto parts while cars are stopped in traffic, has increased.
Tech personality Fisayo Fosudo recently expressed concern on social media about his car being attacked repeatedly while he was stopped in traffic.
He said in a post on X that many parts of his automobile had been stolen, the most recent of which involved the windshield cover being taken off.
Other drivers responded to his complaint, and many of them had similar experiences. Criminals working along the freeway often target specific vehicle models, according to a user who went by the handle #fimiletoks.
“You are a target at night on Lekki-Epe if you drive the RX 350 2017–2022 model,” he said. Every other month, you’ll change the black cover behind the mirrors and the side mirrors. A single mirror is highly sought after and costs more than $100,000. They pose as street vendors or beggars.
