At the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Nigeria defeated Uganda 3-1 in their last Group C match today at the Fez Stadium in Morocco, preserving their undefeated record.
In the 28th minute, Paul Onuachu gave the Super Eagles a well-earned lead in the first half by tapping home from close range after receiving a low cross from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.
Uganda found it difficult to keep up with the three-time champion’s speed and movement as Nigeria controlled the majority of the first half and created multiple opportunities.
After halftime, the Eagles increased their pace and extended their lead in the 62nd minute.
Raphael Onyedika got a nice first touch before coolly putting the ball into the bottom left corner after Samuel Chukwueze squared the ball into the box.
Five minutes later, after a quick assault involving Onuachu, Onyedika latched onto another Chukwueze cut-back and fired into the bottom right corner from roughly fifteen yards.
When replacement Okello freed Mato, who coolly chipped the ball over goalkeeper Francis Uzoho in the 75th minute, Uganda, down to 10 men, grabbed one back. The Cranes were unable to mount a comeback despite the late goal.
With the victory, Uganda finishes the group stage at the bottom and is eliminated from the competition, while Nigeria finishes first in Group C with a maximum of nine points.
