A lady who allegedly sold her two-month-old infant for N1.5 million has been taken into custody by Delta State Police Command officers.
In a statement released today, Mr. Bright Edafe, the State Command’s police public relations officer, verified this.
According to him, on December 15, a woman named Ughale claimed to the Ekpan Police Division that she had been robbed while riding in a tricycle and that her two-month-old child had been taken from her.
The Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Ekpan Division, CSP Labe Joseph, promptly mobilized Division personnel and organized a prompt search and rescue operation after receiving the complaint.
“Inconsistencies and suspicious conduct observed in the complainant’s narrative during the course of the investigation prompted further interrogation,” the police stated.
The complainant later admitted that the report was fabricated and disclosed that she had sold her two-month-old infant to two other suspects for N1.5 million.
The baby was safely recovered, and the suspects were taken into custody.
While the investigation is ongoing, the suspects are presently being held, and efforts are being made to apprehend additional collaborators for prosecution,” Edafe continued.
