Northern Christian Youth Coalition (NCYC) called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately remove Bello Matawalle as Minister of State for Defence over “grave allegations” weakening the nation’s security architecture yesterday.
According to The Guardian, the NCYC encouraged President Tinubu to move decisively to show his commitment to ethics, good administration, and the rule of law.
According to its National Coordinator, Jeremaid Hudso Bako, the group made the appeal yesterday to restore public trust in government institutions and promote accountability.
Bako welcomed the recent dismissal of Farouk Ahmed, the former CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), but urged that other high-ranking officials facing serious allegations be treated the same.
He said: “The accusations against Bello Matawalle are severe and deeply troubling, as they touch on national security issues that are vital to our nation’s stability and safety.
The Bello Matawalle claims are serious. According to reports, he has been involved in operations that threaten our defense apparatus and civilians’ safety.
The NCYC highlighted that the Tinubu administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance must be reflected in swift action against dishonest officials.
