The Managing Directors of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) and the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority (OGFZA) have been commended by the Nigeria Economic Zones Association (NEZA) for their recent request for a ten-year moratorium prior to the National Tax Policy (NTA) being implemented within Nigeria’s free zones.
As stated in our official press release dated September 1, 2025, NEZA Executive Secretary Toyin Elegbede noted that this audacious and progressive stance is both relevant and consistent with NEZA’s prior concerns.
NEZA reaffirmed that implementing the NTA immediately without a clear transitional framework would backfire, endangering current investments and deterring prospective investors from joining the program.
He stated, “We see the ten-year moratorium proposal as a strategic buffer that permits policy harmonization, investor engagement, regulatory clarity, and the development of a globally competitive incentives framework tailored for zone-based enterprises.”
In order to maintain the integrity of the Free Zone plan, NEZA asked NEPZA and OGFZA to keep up their joint campaign.
He said, “We are still dedicated to collaborating with all pertinent authorities to make sure that no policy compromises the sustainability and competitiveness of Free Zones in Nigeria.”
