Dec. 13, GNA — Kumasi Charles Kwadwo Fosu, well known as Daddy Lumba, was laid to rest in Heroes Park in Kumasi, but his first wife, Madam Akosua Serwaa, was noticeably absent from the gathering of thousands of mourners.
Even though Calvin Fosu and a few of her children came there to say their goodbyes to their father, their mother was conspicuously absent.
Many attendees at the funeral were impressed by the children’s sincere homage and applauded them for paying tribute to their father in spite of the difficult circumstances.
The other wife of Daddy Lumba, Priscilla Ofori, also known as Odo Broni, and her family were there, nevertheless.
The crowd’s enthusiastic applause greeted her name with each mention, a clear indication of the public’s support.
As she eulogized her late husband and emphasized his lasting musical impact, her homage became extremely moving, breaking the hearts of many mourners.
People were expecting Madam Akosua Serwaa to be absent because her lawsuit to be recognized as the only genuine surviving widow of the late artist proved unsuccessful.
A torrential rain briefly halted the burial but couldn’t dampen the spirits of those there.
In spite of the rain, many people stayed firm, their hearts full of devotion to the music legend.
The almost hour-long downpour didn’t dampen enthusiasm, and in fact, the opposite was true: even more people flocked to the venue once the rain finally let up.
Fans of Daddy Lumba turned the somber ceremony into a joyous celebration of his life and music by dancing to his popular tunes.
When famous people and their mourners arrived, the audience went wild, cheering and applauding in their honor.
At Daddy Lumba’s farewell, which took place in Heroes Park despite the rain, his supporters showed strength, solidarity, and the profound impact he had on their lives through his songs.
