After talking with manager Arne Slot, various British news outlets say that Mohamed Salah is in Liverpool’s squad for their Premier League match at home against Brighton today.
Both the BBC and Sky claimed that Slot, who had made it plain that he would have the last say on whether to recall Salah, wanted to do what was best for the club.
The Dutchman had mentioned before that he would talk to Salah yesterday morning. This was after the Egypt striker’s outburst last weekend, which made people question his future at Anfield and left him out of the squad that traveled to Italy for a Champions League triumph against Inter Milan in the middle of the week.
Salah said that Liverpool “threw him under the bus” when they put him on the bench for last week’s 3-3 draw at Leeds. This was the third game in a row that he did not start.
He also told reporters after the game at Elland Road that he didn’t know Slot.
Liverpool beat Inter Milan 1-0 on Tuesday, and 33-year-old Salah posted a picture on social media of himself alone in a gym at the club’s training complex.
“I will talk to Mo this morning, and the results of that talk will decide how things will look tomorrow,” Slot said at his pre-match press conference.
“I think the next time I talk about Mo, it should be with him and not in here.” You can keep trying, but there’s not much else to say about it.
He stated, “After the Sunderland game (a 1-1 draw on December 3 in which Salah came on as a second-half substitute), there were a lot of talks between his representatives and ours, between him and me.”
Slot told reporters that he didn’t want to answer any more questions on the forward, but he did say, “I have no reasons not wanting him to stay, and that is a little bit of an answer to your question.”
Salah signed a new two-year deal with Liverpool in April, making him one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League. After today’s game against Brighton at Anfield, he will join the Egypt squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.
How long he is gone depends on how well Egypt does in the Morocco tournament, which ends on January 18.
Salah is Liverpool’s third-highest scorer of all time, with 250 goals in 420 games. He has won two Premier League titles and one Champions League title while playing for the team.
Last season, he scored 29 goals in the Premier League as Liverpool won their 20th English league title. This season, however, he has only scored four goals in 13 games.
Liverpool is in 10th place in the table after a terrible run, having just won two of their last ten Premier League games.
There have been rumors that Salah will move to the Saudi Pro League, which pays well.
