The Police Command in Lagos State has responded to a complaint that an armed group attacked the Ajebo community near Agbowa in the Ikorodu area of the state.
The complaint said that the group attacked the village, damaged property, and hurt people while firing guns, according to NAN.
SP Abimbola Adebisi, the command’s spokesperson, said in a statement today that the claim was false, deceptive, and meant to cause trouble.
She added that the event was a fight over land between two families in the Ajebo neighborhood.
She said that the quarrel between the families got out of hand and led to the urgent deployment of joint police intervention teams.
“To restore order, tactical teams, Police Mobile Force anti-riot units, regular officers from Agbowa Division, Area N Command, and other special units were called in.
She remarked, “Things quickly returned to normal, and people could go about their daily lives without any more problems.”
Adebisi added that Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, the Commissioner of Police, told them to look into the situation right now.
She said, “Initial findings confirmed that the disturbance was caused by the disagreement between the families, not by an attack by gunmen as the media reported.”
The maker of the photograph said that no one died, no one was hurt, and no guns were fired during the event, which is not what the story said.
She says that peace has been entirely restored and the leaders of the two fighting families have been found and invited to the police commissioner’s office for more inquiry.
“They have been told to keep the peace, and they have been warned that any more trouble will bring the full force of the law,” she said.
The spokeswoman claimed that CP Jimoh told people not to propagate false information and told reporters to be responsible and make sure their stories are true.
“CP Jimoh told Lagos residents that the police were committed to keeping the peace, safety, and order in the state while also asking people not to spread false information,” she stated.
