Mohammed Badaru, the Defence Minister, has resigned immediately.
His resignation was written to President Tinubu on December 1, Channels TV says.
Yesterday, Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Information and Strategy Special Adviser, verified this.
The presidential spokesman claimed Abubakar resigned for health reasons.
Onanuga said President Tinubu accepted Abubakar’s resignation and thanked him for his service.
Tinubu may inform the Senate of Badaru’s successor this week, according to presidential sources.
Jigawa State governor Abubakar, 63, served two terms from 2015 until 2023. President Tinubu named him defense minister on August 21, 2023.
His resignation follows President Tinubu’s proclamation of a national security emergency, which he would expand later.
