Three farmers have been brutally killed in a new violent attack by Fulani herdsmen on the community of Gilim Ashi, which is located along the Naka–Agagbe route in the Gwer West Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State.
Saturday Vanguard says that the incident has made people in the village and adjacent Naka, the LGA’s headquarters, more tense and scared.
A source said that the victims were Ioryer Kwaghkaha, Ayila Atsar, and one other who has not yet been named. Reports say that they were shot and savagely attacked while working on their farms on Thursday afternoon.
The source claimed, “The village is a settlement along the Naka–Agagbe road, behind Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Naka town.” They also said that the bodies of the dead were taken to the Naka morgue.
The murders happened less than 24 hours after armed gunmen ambushed and killed a passenger on the Naka–Makurdi route near Kula village.
“Even though Nigerian Army troops stopped that first onslaught, the attackers came again on Thursday and this time went after farmers in the region.
The insider went on to say, “The renewed attack has made people even more afraid in communities that are already dealing with ongoing insecurity.”
We were unable to get in touch with DSP Udeme Edet, the Police Public Relations Officer.
