Bandits have kidnapped a minimum of eight individuals in Biresawa village, located within the Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
A credible source informed our correspondent that the intruders invaded the area between 11 PM and midnight last night, according to Daily Trust.
He stated, “They arrived as per usual, and based on our current findings, two males and six females were abducted by the bandits.” As of present, there is no information regarding their location.
Kabiru Usman, a relative of several victims, stated that the assailants entered from the adjacent Tsundu village.
“They approached on foot, equipped with firearms.” Usman stated, “They abducted my wife, Umma; my 17-year-old daughter, Fati; my brother’s wife, and two additional women.”
“We attempted to impede them, but our armaments were inferior as they possessed firearms.”
He stated that people had notified the police and military following prior warnings of the bandits’ approach to the settlements.
“Prior to the attack, we received intelligence indicating their approach, prompting us to alert security agencies, including the police and military, in advance, as they had provided their contact numbers and requested notification of any pertinent information.”
A separate source informed our correspondent that the communities targeted were Sarmawa village, Yan Chibi village, and Gano village, all located in the Tsanyawa local government area of Kano State.
“Approximately 50 armed bandits on motorcycles infiltrated our community, Yan Chibi, discharging firearms into the air. We all fled for safety, and subsequently, we learned that they had kidnapped several individuals, predominantly women, although I cannot specify the exact number of abductees.” Subsequently, we discovered that they had visited additional communities and abducted several individuals there. While I converse with you, there are no reports of fatalities; nevertheless, I can affirm that more than 10 individuals have been abducted,” the source disclosed.
A source from the local vigilante group disclosed that nearby towns have noticed the suspicious presence of unfamiliar individuals, prompting the mobilization of the vigilante force.
The informant additionally indicated that following the alleged kidnapping, the vigilante and many community members attempted to initiate a hot pursuit, but lost track of the robbers upon their entry into Katsina State.
He stated that residents of the settlements had been living in fear since the onset of the onslaught in the adjacent Shanono and Bagwai local government regions.
He said that numerous families have implemented the tactic of not residing in their homes overnight.
Numerous settlements have been abandoned due to ongoing insecurity.
Numerous residents have sought sanctuary in Faruruwa town or migrated to urban centers for protection.
As of the time of this report, Kano State’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, had not replied to calls made to him.
This is not the inaugural instance of bandits attacking that region of Kano.
Several weeks ago, bandits assaulted Yan Kwada village in the Faruruwa community of Shanono Local Government Area in Kano, abducting five women, including nursing mothers.
The incident occurred one week subsequent to a collaborative military operation that confronted robbers in an intense gunfight in the region, resulting in the deaths of 19 outlaws.
