Trump, who previously referred to Mamdani as a “100% Communist Lunatic” and a “total nut job,” expressed his admiration for the individual who labeled his administration as “authoritarian.”
Trump remarked, “I believe he will astonish certain conservative individuals,” referring to the democratic socialist while Mamdani was present beside him in the Oval Office.
The meeting presented political opportunities for both individuals. For Mamdani, the discussion provided the state legislator — hitherto obscure — the opportunity to confront the world’s most influential figure directly.
Trump dismisses Mamdani’s ‘fascist’ critique.
Both addressed housing affordability and the expenses of food and utilities, as Mamdani effectively leveraged public dissatisfaction with inflation to secure election, mirroring the president’s strategy in the 2024 election.
Trump remarked that several of Mamdani’s thoughts align closely with his own regarding inflationary matters.

When reporters inquired of Mamdani to elucidate his previous remarks suggesting that he perceived the president as exhibiting fascist tendencies, Trump responded, “I’ve been labeled far worse than a despot.”
When a reporter inquired whether Mamdani maintained his assertion that Trump is a fascist, Trump interrupted before the mayor-elect could completely respond.
“That is acceptable. You may simply affirm. Is that understood?” Trump stated. “It is more straightforward. It is simpler than elaborating. I have no objections.”
The president stated, “We will assist him in realizing everyone’s aspiration for a robust and secure New York.”

However, Trump refrained from directing that criticism at the mayor on Friday. “We do not desire that occurrence,” Trump stated. “I do not believe that will transpire.”
This year included several dramatic confrontations in the Oval Office, including a notorious heated exchange with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in February, leading to widespread apprehension.
