The Yobe Government has ordered all boarding secondary schools in the state to close because of security problems.
Mamman Mohammed, the Director General of Press and Media Affairs to Governor Mai Mala Buni, said this in a statement.
The announcement from yesterday said, “The Yobe State government has ordered the closure of all boarding secondary schools in the state as a proactive measure to protect students in the schools.”
“The decision came after a security meeting between the Governor, His Excellency Hon. (Dr) Mai Mala Buni CON, COMN, and the state’s security chiefs, where they talked about security issues in schools in some parts of the country.”
According to Channels TV, Mohammed said that the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education in Yobe, Bukar Bukar, ordered all secondary schools to close right away until the situation got better.
Governor Buni asked the people of the state to pray for the leaders, the police, peace, and better security in the country.
The government and the states closed schools.
Yobe is one of many states that have closed schools because of escalating security threats, especially the mass kidnapping of children in northern Nigeria.
In the previous several days, Kebbi, Plateau, and Kwara have all told schools to close.
The federal government also closed 14 unity schools right away. They will stay closed until the security situation in the areas where the schools are located is reviewed.
Their choices came after a lot of students were kidnapped and portions of Nigeria became less safe.
Bandits took 24 kids away in Kebbi State on Monday. Gunmen grabbed roughly 315 pupils in Niger State the same week.
Gunmen assaulted a church in Kwara State, taking many people hostage and killing roughly two others.
At the same time, President Bola Tinubu has ordered stronger security all over Nigeria. He also said that those who had been taken would be safely rescued.
