Eberechi Eze had an amazing first game in the Premier League North London Derby, scoring a hat-trick to help Arsenal beat Tottenham Hotspur 4–1 yesterday.
Eze’s three goals make him the first Arsenal player to achieve a hat-trick against Spurs since 1978. According to AFP, he is also the first Englishman to score in his first league North London Derby for Arsenal since Ian Wright and Kevin Campbell in 1991.
Arsenal started well and scored first in the 36th minute when Leandro Trossard got on the end of a beautiful lob from Mikel Merino. His low shot hit a Spurs defender and went into the net.
Five minutes later, Eze extended the lead by receiving a pass from Declan Rice, dribbling through two defenders, and hitting a shot that beat the goalie even though he had a strong hand.
Eze scored again just one minute into the second half. This time, he received a ball from Jurrien Timber and finished with a low shot that was perfect to make it 3–0.
In the 55th minute, Tottenham briefly came back when Richarlison scored with a great long-range lob over David Raya after Martin Zubimendi lost the ball in the middle of the field.
In the 76th minute, Arsenal got their three-goal lead back when Trossard burst forward from a long ball and found Eze, who danced past his marker and fired a perfect shot into the far corner to complete his hat-trick.
The result puts Arsenal six points ahead of Chelsea, who is in second place in the Premier League.
Eze stated after the game, “That was the prayer today.” I believe that God gave it to me. Having all my relatives here makes it much more special for me.
It is one of a kind. “Words can’t explain this one today.”
