The National Festival of Arts and Culture will not take place in 2025, according to the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy.
According to NAN, the festival was supposed to start today, Saturday, November 22, 2025, in Enugu State.
Nneka Anibeze, the Minister’s Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, confirmed the delay today in Abuja.
The choice was made after carefully considering the mood of the country as insecurity grew in different areas.
The Minister, Hannatu Musawa, has agreed to move the event to a later date out of respect for the lives lost and to show support for the families and communities affected.
“NAFEST has always been a strong force for building the nation by bringing Nigerians together, strengthening social ties, and providing a place for cultural diplomacy and soft power.
“This year’s event, with more than 28 states getting ready to take part, was set to send a strong message of resilience and unity. It is one of the few national events that can show Nigeria in a positive and welcoming light, showing unity, hospitality, and national confidence.”
The statement went on to say, “However, given the current national mood, the federal government believes it is more respectful and responsible to postpone the festival rather than proceed while many citizens are grieving.”
The minister stressed that the choice shows principles of compassion, national solidarity, and sensitivity as a group. After talking to more people, including security agencies, a new date for NAFEST 2025 will be set.
“The Ministry thanks the participating states, cultural groups, partners, and the Nigerian public for their understanding and support.
She ended by saying, “We are still committed to showing off Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity, and we look forward to putting on an even better, more unifying NAFEST at the right time.”
