Funke Akindele, a starlet from Nollywood, has been the talk of social media for days—not because of any new accolades, red carpet looks, or dance challenges—but because she stepped out with a noticeably curvier shape, leading many to speculate if she had secretly had plastic surgery.
Saturday PUNCH reported that videos of the actress displaying her larger posterior and enlarged hips went viral last week, causing fans to perform double takes and engulf social media in a blaze.
Some speculated that Akindele had joined the increasing number of celebrities who have enhanced their bodies after she posted an Instagram video in which she strutted boldly in her new figure.
The actress is, however, merely portraying a role.
In the video, Akindele proudly displays her enlarged body while dressed in a modest yet stylish clothing.
“Greetings, lovely individuals. Hi there! I am Adetutu Fernandez. How about my figure? To be gorgeous, I am willing to spend anything. “I shelled out a pretty penny to get my body done,” she explained.
She portrays Adetutu Fernandez, a character she calls “the body of a goddess,” in her next film Behind The Scenes, and the “new body” is just one element of a complex marketing strategy for the film.
Even though her makeover caught many people off guard at first, Akindele is still playing the joke as she promotes the film.
“Detutu Fernandez sure got the body of a goddess,” she commented in another post. If you’re in love with her figure, clock it.
Akindele used a themed runway video to introduce her star-studded cast—which includes Scarlett Gomez, Wandi and Handi, Uche Montana, Tobi Bakare, Ini Dima, Mr. Macaroni, Uzor Arukwe, Ibrahim Chatta, and Iyabo Ojo—in the lead-up to the film’s debut.
Colleagues in the industry who joined in on the joke have also reacted to the hilarious butt.
Akowonjo BBL! was the caption that actor Deyemi used.
Mo Bimpe playfully said, “Mama! Upbeat and groovy.
“These hips are speaking volumes,” Bisola remarked to Aunt Funke.
According to Blessing Obasi, “Hips na water.”
