Because Air Tanzania couldn’t run its scheduled flights, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has asked the airline to give passengers stuck in Dar es Salaam and Lagos welfare and reimbursement packages.
His position came after some Nigerian passengers who are stuck in Dar es Salaam raised the concern, including one who has to go to a visa interview on Monday.
Michael Achimugu, the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, stated in a message today on his verified X handle that passengers who have been stuck for a long time are entitled to hotel rooms, meals, and regular updates under Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023.
He told the airline that if it couldn’t fly over the weekend, it either give passengers their money back or book them on other airlines.
“The NCAA is here to help you in any way they can, but it would be great if you followed the rules.
“We’ve told your passengers what could happen if there is a technical problem, and they know that safety comes first.” He said, “Please treat them with the respect they deserve.”
The NCAA also told Air Tanzania to give the same level of care to passengers who were stuck in Lagos for the outgoing route. It said it was in touch with travelers in both places.
In an update after his first post, Achimugu said that the passengers had been given food and a place to stay.
“Passengers were finally granted a hotel room and a supper. The airline has promised them that they will be flown today, even though the airline doesn’t generally fly to Nigeria on weekends.
“We will keep an eye on the situation until the passengers are safe,” he wrote.
