The Kasama High Court in Zambia has heard that a woman may have died after having “rough” intercourse with her husband, who had taken a native herbal supplement called Mtototo.
The Daily Mail says that Eric Katinala, 34, is being charged with killing his wife, Martha Ndakala.
But Eric told Ndola High Court judge Emelia Sunkutu, who was in charge and sitting in Kasama, how his wife died after they had sex.
Eric told the court that he was back from Mansa, where he had been working as a spray painter and panel beater for cars for four months, as part of his defense.
Eric stated this happened after his boss gave him a week off to move his wife and child from Kasama to Mansa.
He stated they both agreed to go for a drink at a location named Esco after spending a day at home.
A guy who was selling traditional herbal treatments called Congo Dust and Mtototo came up to them as they were drinking Eagle lager beer.
“I then bought the natural medication Mtototo. “We went home after that, and while my wife was making dinner, I took the herb,” he claimed.
Eric reported that the two of them started having sex around 8:00 PM.
He claimed, “While we were having sex, we would hit ourselves against the wall and the floor as we changed positions.”
Eric added that after a while, his wife informed him she was fatigued and asked him to give her water to drink and pour some on her body.
He added that after they drank water, they went on with the sexual experience, and during it, his wife smacked the back of her head against the wall.
“That is how we slept.” Eric added, “I tried to wake my wife up around 5:00 the next day, but she said she was feeling dizzy.”
Eric then went to start a fire so he could cook for her.
Eric reported that as he was starting a fire, his brother-in-law came over and they talked.
He heard a child wailing inside the house after his brother-in-law departed. When he went to investigate, he found his wife passed out.
“I immediately proceeded to my in-law’s house so we could take her to the hospital. Eric remarked, “We took her to Kasama General Hospital later.”
He told the court that a doctor at the hospital told him that his wife had died and that he should call the police.
Eric stated it was hard to convey exactly what had happened when asked why he didn’t tell his wife’s family what had happened to her.
He remarked that it is usually not polite to talk such bedroom issues with in-laws, but he did tell his parents instead.
At the same time, a forensic pathologist’s report said that Eric’s wife had blood in her head and damage to her neck.
Eric, on the other hand, stated that the injuries to the neck could have happened because of the different postures they were in during intercourse.
Eric told the State that the sexual encounter was not aggressive but “unique” when they queried him.
