A woman from Maryland who said she died and “crossed over” several times amid medical emergencies is now revealing what she thinks she learnt from being close to death.
Norma Edwards, an 80-year-old spiritual therapist and life coach, said that she had died three times in her life.
She remembered having what she called “vivid experiences” in another place, meeting “beings of light,” and receiving a strong message that she was brought back to Earth to deliver: that life goes on beyond death.
Edwards had her first near-death experience (NDE) in 1971, when she was 26 and living in London with her husband and child.
She fell down because of pregnancy problems that weren’t identified and was sent to the hospital right away. Doctors found out that she had a stillbirth and needed to operate very away, but her heart stopped during the operation.
Edwards said she left her body while medics tried to bring her back to life.
She said she shot through “a pitch-black tunnel” toward bands of color she had “never seen on Earth” before entering what she thought was pure, dazzling light.
She said she saw something like a huge screen showing her life again, split into what she thought were the life she planned, the life she lived, and the outcome.
In November 2024, Norma Edwards had her most recent close call with death when she had a heart attack at home in Maryland.
Edwards, who was born in Guyana, said that “each review” indicated she hadn’t done what she set out to do.
A short time later, she said she saw familiar “otherworldly” spirits, including a beloved aunt waiting for her by a river. Then she was told she couldn’t stay and had to go back to Earth with the message that “life doesn’t end; it transforms.”
She stated it was “excruciating” to go back into her body.
“It hurt. Like attempting to fit a whole galaxy into a teacup. My spirit is so big, so it aches when you put that energy back into a small body.
“My senses were sharper, and color looked like music, with radios flashing with light.
“I could see inside people’s bodies. I feared I was going mad. They would blow when I stepped under them. I couldn’t say what it was.
This deep experience made Edwards want to become a chaplain.
For 27 years, she worked in prisons, helping people get ready to go back to their communities by giving them spiritual direction and therapeutic assistance.
Edwards, who is 80 years old, revealed that she has clinically flatlined three times in her life.
After her career, Edwards had another close call with death in November 2024 when she had a heart attack at her home in Maryland.
Edwards said she knew right away what was going on: “the tunnel, the shift, the pull toward the other side.” But she said she was brought back to life just before what she called “reaching Heaven.”
When she flatlined again that morning, she said she felt a “female presence” guiding her and heard the same message she said she had heard decades before.
Edwards stated that along with the promise that life is forever, she was told she still had a job to do: helping others let go of their fears and see life and death clearly.
Edwards now works with senior communities to help people who are close to death.
She advises people not to be afraid of death, but to see it as a change.
She responded, “The soul doesn’t die.” “You’re just leaving your body and going into something bigger.”
Edwards, stated that her experiences have made her believe that fear is the biggest problem for people.
Even while she still feels a strong pull toward the “love and wholeness” she felt during her first NDE and is still sad over losing her baby in that medical catastrophe, Edwards said she has found meaning in helping others.
“I’ve learned something from everyone I’ve helped,” she remarked.
“You have the best gift as long as you are alive. And when the time comes, you’re not finishing; you’re growing.
Edwards claimed that her experiences have made her even more sure that fear is the biggest problem for people.
She said, “We come here to learn, love, and grow.” “Fear itself is the only thing to be afraid of.”
